Stored books and periodicals are in compact shelving, Automated Stored Retrieval System (ASRS), in the basement of the University Library.

When you find a OneSearch record for an item you'd like with Location: Stored, first login to OneSearch with your portal ID and password. Then you can request the item from storage to pickup at Guest Services in the main lobby taking approximately 10 minutes.

Most items in storage can be checked out from the Guest Services desk and taken home (if you are a CSUN student, staff, or faculty member, or if you have another kind of library card).  However, stored journals, stored microforms, and stored Special Collections are for use inside the library only.

If you are a visitor to the library, and do not have a portal ID and password, please go directly to the Guest Services desk in the lobby on the main floor. A staff member will check the stored item out to you on a guest account for use inside the library only.

Items that are labeled Stored Special Collections & Archives can be requested through Special Collections & Archives and examined in the Special Collections reading room on the library's second floor, west wing.
